My Favorite Place to Find Treasures: Vernissage

My Favorite Place to Find Treasures: Vernissage

I have always adored open air markets. Whether it is a farmers market or antique bazaar, I love them all. There is something more exciting about shopping in these markets than just going to the grocery store or the mall. Maybe I am a hopeless romantic always hoping to find the diamond in the rough or maybe shopping at these markets is just better because you are helping to an individual rather than a large corporation. If anything it is probably a mixture of both. I was thrilled to discover that Yerevan has a weekly open air bazaar called Vernissage.

Vernissage was formed by artists in the 80's who wanted to display their work. The market eventually expanded to artisans of all kinds. From people making and selling rugs, soap, jewelry etc. You can find so many little treasures at Vernissage. The vendors are all so friendly and eager to chat with you. Some of the vendors regularly attend each week, but there always seems to be someone new every week which makes it feel like a treasure hunt.
